Trans-System Federation

Recently, devs mentioned on twitter that TSA is renamed TSF (Trans-System Federation). I was wondering if we should retain TSA for NS1 lore (such as Frontiersmen page's background section), or change TSA into TSF?

Actually yes, change everything to Trans-System Federation (TSF).
You can also mention that it was previously named as Trans-System Authority -TSA- in the mod.
Something like= The Marines as depicted in the game are the force mounted by the TSF, the Trans-System Federation (formerly known as Trans-System Authority -TSA- in the mod) is an independent body...
Above is just an idea.

Content Organization

I bring this up after I noticed that the layout in which weapons and structures were displayed was reverted back to the old list style, as opposed to the row/columns format that was previously adopted. I find that this method makes the page unnecessarily long and would probably be better off the way it was before, for the sake of making more actual content accessible to the reader at a glance. If there is a particular reason that this change was made, feel free to share and i'm sure i'll understand, I just felt that the previous method was simply a more efficient way to present the increasingly extensive array of the marine assets to the reader. --Heroman117 00:20, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

It was a request from Paisand; I made the reversion for comparison, to hopefully find the cause of unreadability as he mentioned. The conversation can be found here: User talk:PsiWarp.--PsiWarp 00:33, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I think the table layout can work, but it needs to be a little better thought out so you know what text belongs where, etc. Perhaps a border and background color for the titlebar would work, I don't know. Quovatis 01:30, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
1.- is not a list style, is a table.
2.- if it works, don't change it.
3.- when you do a change to something that actually is right, you must verify the change will work on every platform and screen size, and the most important thing is readability. When we first designed this section we tried the centred table but it looks odd on large screens (on small tiny toy screens looks well), that's why we stick to the list and then I modified it on a table to make it more readable, and fit the second level (gl attach) image.
4.- Until the wiki version is updated to the latest we can't do better. I was waiting for this to make a better layout.

Frontiersmen and Marines

I just noticed that we don't have a page for the playable Marine character (with stats and abilities, like Kharaa lifeforms). Is it possible to separate "Marine" from "Frontiersmen" with the latter leading to the main page?--PsiWarp 03:47, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

I agree individual marines should have their own article but just to prevent confusion, we should rename this article to Frontiersmen, as its technically more accurate; referring to the actual military force that is responsible for fighting the Kharaa. --Heroman117 12:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Indeed. Is there's a function for renaming pages or is copy-pasting required? I think the discussion page would have to be moved as well to keep coherence--PsiWarp 18:16, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I went ahead and copy-pasted the article. --Heroman117 05:54, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

For future reference, click on the "move" button, which will rename the page, create a redirect for the old page, and move the talk page automatically. Quovatis 06:29, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Marines are all the same, they don't have special abilities. What you have is different weapons and equipment.
PaiSand 23:32, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't have too much of a problem with that was done with the pages. Only thing is that it has broken a lot of links now as "Marine" used to be the same as "Marines", which is not the case now, so some links point to the wrong page. I understand the difference between the marine team and the marine player, and that is an important distinction. I think the way it is now is probably the best way to have it, though maybe not the most convenient. As for the layout change, I like the new table layout just fine and prefer it to the single-list layout. As was said, there are very few people active on the wiki and there was no opposition to the change until now. But I'm open to discuss the shortcomings of each version. Quovatis 01:13, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

The "-->" arrow does look a little tacky though. Would be nice to have an actual image of the grenade launcher instead of a rifle and a grenade. Quovatis 01:17, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Sorry fellas, that was improvised for the table layout. I did like the arrow image from before, but couldn't find an elegant solution to arrangement...--PsiWarp 01:21, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Personally, I don't have a problem with it. It gets the job done, and for lack of an accurate GL attachment picture, it's the best thing I can think of._Techercizer (.Feed.) (.Nerf.) 15:40, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Welder in Support Section

What about putting the Welder in the support unit section. I assume it can be used as a weapon (like NS1), but that's not its main role. The MAC is the same way. It can attack, but I wouldn't call it a weapon. Quovatis 16:07, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

That's true, it's main purpose is repair and support; I just put it there because of in-game order of the Buy Menu. I suppose the Mine can also be moved, too.--PsiWarp 20:35, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

On second thought, I moved the Mine and Welder next to the Jetpack and Exosuit, which are Marine equipment and separates them with support stuff (for Marine Commander)--PsiWarp 20:42, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Frontiersmen Pages Streamlining

Alrighty, finally got around to reorganizing the game content. Some TBA stuff like Welder and Mine models will need images later on, no doubt. Next to do is streamlining the actual content pages themselves!--PsiWarp 08:18, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Ah the page looks so much nicer now, and isn't as unnecessarily long like it used to be. Now what i think is important is to buff up all the articles for the individual weapons and equipment. Things are coming along quite nicely :P--Heroman117 09:09, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Background for Main Page

Just like with the Alien lifeforms, may i add background lore to this page as well? I am asking in advance because there is quite a lot of lore involved with the TSA organization and i wouldn't want to flood the page with non-vital information. I'll abridge the information if it is too long, but just wanted to get your guys opinions before i go ahead with it.--Heroman117 15:21, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps do a first pass on it, since we can always modify and simplify it later. As long as we have a picture or two (TSA logo?) to ease the eyes from the wall of text, it's a welcome addition for me :)--PsiWarp 18:20, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
If it's too long, we can just make a separate page and use an abridged version here, like regular wikipedia articles. But yeah, have a go at it, as we can always change and improve it. Quovatis 18:23, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Alright, i've gone ahead and added all relevant background information, and upon retrospect, isn't quite as prolonged as i thought it would be. I kept the more crucial information first, and also revised the introductory paragraph to sound a little more professional. I really only expect people who want to learn all about NS's lore would be distracted by it, and that is in a good way. You guys have any problems with it? cause as it is i think its good.--Heroman117 05:03, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Probably need to use references when you copy/paste stuff verbatim. Quovatis 16:22, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Got it. I have the feeling that the weapons and strcutures could be better organized, instead of all having their own line, have rows and columns along the lines of the alien lifeforms, except without quite as large icons. --Heroman117 04:14, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Frontiersmen Overview

Hey I was thinking this page could have an overview of the Frontiersman (game lore), the fact they work for the TSA and their mission/goals etc. -steppin'razor

is the idea, but we need more info from UWE about this. And right now they are focused on finish the game.
PaiSand 03:13, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Change this

  • Command Facility
  • Command Center

This are Command Station upgrades, not separated buildings. Please move this to the CC page and write down in there all the info, there is no need to have separated pages for each upgrade.

  • Advanced Armory

Same as above.

PaiSand 05:26, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Woops, good point. Guess I got a bit carried away there.

ScardyBob 05:46, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

No problem ;)
We all did something like that and we learn from it.
Anyway, GREAT JOB!!!

How do I edit

The nav bar at the bottom of the marine/alien pages? There are a few structures and weapons missing that I'd like to add to it.

ScardyBob 4 December 2010

When you edit the page you can see at the bottom {{MarinesNav}} template which calls {{MarinesTabbedNav}} template.
That is the navigation for Marines, as an included Template.
If you look down on the edit page you can see all the Templates on the page. Look for Template:MarinesTabbedNav and follow that link.
Now edit the MarinesTabbedNav template and add the necessary information following the current layout (in HTML + wiki)
Before saving make sure you Preview it so you can see if it works as it should be, then save it.

Power Node

Should the Power Node also be linked from the structures section on the Marines page? It's basically a Marine Structure... --Kouji San 21:48, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
