Introduction

The Marine is the playable character for the Frontiersmen. As a gun-trotting and highly disciplined soldier enlisted by the Trans-System Authority, the Marine is trained for combat against increasing encounters with the alien creatures known as the Kharaa; in addition, sporting advanced and state-of-the-art weaponry and equipment, the Marine is battle-ready the moment he materializes from the Infantry Portal. A Marine can be selected amongst the squad to become Marine Commander at a Command Station.

Each Marine deployed to the field is equipped with the standard Assault Rifle, Pistol, and Switch-Axe; advanced weapons and equipment must be researched by the Marine Commander and purchased from an Armory or Prototype Lab.

When the Frontiersmen suffer a Marine casualty, the player will respawn at an Infantry Portal in 7 seconds, more if there are multiple casualties.

Structure and Weapon Interaction


Builder
Allows Marine to assemble a Marine Commander-placed unbuilt structure or Power Node.
Hotkey E (hold)


Buy Menu
Opens the Buy Menu of a nearby Armory or Prototype Lab to purchase weapons and equipment, which require research by the Marine Commander.
Hotkey E (tap)


Equip
Equips a dropped or purchased weapon or equipment; equip replaces current loadout weapon in primary, secondary or melee slot.
Hotkey G (tap)


Login
Login at an unoccupied Command Station to take on the role of the Marine Commander; Commander can place structures, upgrade, research, assist, and direct Marine objectives from a Real-time Strategy perspective.
Hotkey E (tap)


Innate and Toggle-able


Flashlight
Toggles on/off a flashlight, which provides a wide area of illumination in front of the Marine.
Hotkey F


Sprint
Increases Marine's move speed when toggled; sprinting lowers current weapon when in use.
